Is there a difference between losing weight and getting fit? Absolutely!! When you really stop to think about it you need both in order to achieve success!!
At this point you maybe scratching your head and thinking that losing weight and getting fit are the same thing. But honestly they are NOT!! We just want everything to be simple, so we don't have to work hard or give anything up. So it is easier to lump losing weight and getting fit into the same category.
The term getting FIT really takes place in the GYM. You are toning your muscles and helping to raise your metabolism so that you can burn more fat at a faster rate. Ultimately becoming stronger. But can you truly do all your work in the gym? No, not really! If you continue with bad eating habits and stop at the fast food joints, eat sugary snacks, or eat "dead food" regularly (food from a box, over processed, additives...) you are really putting your potential success on hold. Basically you are confusing the heck out of your body!!!
Now, let's think about the term weight loss. Or rather FAT LOSS! You can only lose so much fat in the gym, working out. Although you do need to be consistent with your workouts, in order to achieve great success you will need to do some exercise in the kitchen too! Whether that means you are "exercising your right" to cook more, or "exercising your right" to make better food choices when you are at home or out on the town... I use the term "exercise" because you will have to learn how to have good judgement. Learning how to say, "NO" to yourself and learn how to say, "YES" to better habits!! Replacing good habits and LOSING old negative habits is not easy and not something you are going to be great at over night. So you have to learn how to "exercise" and "broaden" your mind in the food department.
The only way to be truly be successful is maintaining balance in your life. Balance at the gym (and I mean a normal workout, not insanely long workouts or crazy ones) and in the kitchen! When you eat more "live" foods, you will find out that you no longer have to work so hard in the gym!! Isn't that exciting?!! Also when we use "live" food to your benefit, you will be helping every system in your body. You will be helping to detoxify all your systems, so that they function better, causing less stress and inflammation on the body. Which is really exciting, because that means you will have less visits to the doctor, you will have less injury, less mood swings, hormones will balance out....
So in the future, "exercise" good judgement when it comes to your food choices. You will be helping yourself for years to come if you do!! Treats are good, but only in moderation.
***"Live" food- anything that is FRESH (not frozen, boxed, soda, diet products... Most are full of chemicals and added sugars). Live foods are Veggies, Fruits, Proteins with some grains. Quinoa is AWESOME! Remember don't over cook your food! You can cook all the nutrients right out of your food if you are not careful. When cooking meat, remember to let it rest for a period of time. Pull it out of the oven or off the grill just before it is done. Cover the meat and let it "REST" for about 5 min. It will continue to cook and be nice and tender and juicy! Fish is great cooked at 350 for 20-25 min. Rub your favorite herbs over it and sprinkle with a little olive oil. Veggies are best roasted or sauteed in olive or coconut oil with some Himalayan salt. Veggies that are roots like sweet potato, carrots, beets take longer to cook. Usually 40 min at 400 degrees. While leafy greens you may want to saute on a low heat and cover with a lid. Green beans, kale, spinach, broccoli usually take only 20 min.***
