Chocolate done the right way!

Who ever said people with PCOS can't have yummy things?!! CRAZY, right?! No worries, that statement isnt totally accurate anyway. So keep reading about how you can have a healthy treat the safe and SMART way.

Women who have PCOS are more sensative to almost everything in general. We tend to be sensative to grains, gluten, sugar, dairy, soy, starches, additives, chemicals...The list goes on and on!
Not to worry though. You don't have to completely restrict all of the yummy foods you once ate to replace them with only rabbit food. However I would highly recommend ditching the chemicals, additives and soy. Your body will be relieved and less stressed without that toxic junk!

I am sure you are wondering how someone with PCOS can have sugar, grains, starches?... Carefully and in moderation. Portion control is one key factor. Finding whole foods that have not been over processed is another. My rule of thumb is the less on the ingredient list the better! Keep it simple!
Find healthy sources to get these foods from. Use mainly organic options when you have the means. Keep your meals full of veggies and enjoy a small helping of complex carbs for fuel. You will be less tired if you have some long sustaining fuel in your system. Keep in mind too many grains, starches or sugars at one meal can have the opposite effect on your body. If you get too much it can make you feel like you need a nap. So use caution and be mindful of portion sizes.
One last thing at meal time choose either a grain like quinoa or choose a starch. But don't eat both at one sitting. Swap starches and grains, so that you don't overload your system with too many carbs and sugars.

As for desert. Keep desert light! Choose to make your own deserts with only a few whole food ingredients. Apple protein bites are yummy, bake some fruit and sprinkle with cinnamon or have a small piece or two of organic soy free chocolate. Again portion control is key and if you have a big sweet tooth like I do, I recommend you find a suitable dense nutrient rich drink which will satisfy you chocolate cravings (I can recommend the one  use if you need ideas) and support all your bodies needs for the day.

Building Your Family’s Healthy Eating Habits by Cooking and Eating Together

Including your children in the meal preparation process increases their awareness and appetite for healthy eating. When we as parents communicate interest and enthusiasm for making healthy meals, we are more likely to instill the same attitudes in our kids. The next time you are unsure about the importance of family meals, consider how shopping, cooking, and eating together will reinforce your family’s healthy habits by: Empowering your kids: Teaching your kids how to cook is something that will help them to make their own healthy choices as they grow up.  Cooking will allow your kids to develop their food preferences and understanding of nutrition to apply into their own healthy lifestyles. Improving Communication. Shared meals create an additional avenue of communication for families. It can be a place to discuss the day’s events, enjoy each other’s company, and provide a time for family discussions. Asking open-ended questions such as “How was your day?” rath...

Guilt FREE Desert

Okay, so I'll admit that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. What I like about the 21 Day Fix program is that I can still live like a normal person and have a little desert with out having to stress. So the other night I came up with this yummy recipe: ~1-2 nectarines (depends on the size of the fruit and if your feeding family too) = 1 PURPLE container ~2-3 Shakes of Cinnamon ~Handful of almonds or pecans = 1 BLUE container ~1 YELLOW container full of Organic Oat and Honey Cereal (I actually didn't need to use the entire container) 1.Slice apricots and place on foil. 2. Sprinkle with Cinnamon and wrap up the foil gently. 3. Place in 350° oven for 15-20 min. 4. Roast nuts in a pan for a few min on low-med low heat. 5. Place baked apricots on a plate and top with a little cereal and nuts. You can drizzle a little juice let from the foil over the whole thing to kick up some sweetness, but it s not necessary.
