Wind vs Life

I had an epiphany about life while running yesterday. It was a nicer day, the sun was out but the wind was blowing. I was jogging with my daughter in her stroller, which is usually pretty light when its just Kloe and the stroller. But today with the wind blowing I had Kloe strapped into her carrier, bundled up and snapped into the stroller this way we had use of the double canopy for a wind break.

As I ran up a hill I got a strong blast of a head wind. The head wind used my daughters stroller as a wind sock, which made the stroller even heavier to push. This happened a bunch of times on my run. And with each hill I was getting more and more tired. I was starting to think about giving up and I just couldn't wait to turn the corner just to have the wind blowing at a different angle. After laboring pretty hard up one particular hill while with the wind at my face I had this wonderful epiphany about life!

Life tends to be hard sometimes. We have our big hills and small hills. We struggle, we grumble, we say, "why me?"... when we are having a hard time of things. But just like a strong head wind, the wind will shift and eventually you will get the wonderful awaited tail wind! Life eventually shifts too and you get a helping hand. Things start to go your way, you stop thinking of giving up and start moving forward again. So remember next time when you are struggling with a windy day and life just isn't going your way, the wind will eventually shift and your load will be lightened!! You will get a break and everything will be ok.

Another analogy I had while running was that with this wind blowing hard at my front, my body was having to work harder to maintain speed. Which meant for me that I would inevitably be getting stronger, because my lungs and muscles were having to work harder to keep up. Now I had something to look forward to on a non wind day!! My speed would increase and all thanks to the wind! My body was learning to work harder and go faster. Life works in this way too. It throws you a curve ball and you have to work harder on parts of your life that need more development. Pushing you to make more headway so that you become more mature, and a more well rounded person! I know it doesn't feel great at the time, but we all have lessons to learn, some harder then others. This way when life changes coarse again and we get a relaxing break, we can help others through their windy day. Giving encouragement, love and compassion because we have already weathered the storm.

Building Your Family’s Healthy Eating Habits by Cooking and Eating Together

Including your children in the meal preparation process increases their awareness and appetite for healthy eating. When we as parents communicate interest and enthusiasm for making healthy meals, we are more likely to instill the same attitudes in our kids. The next time you are unsure about the importance of family meals, consider how shopping, cooking, and eating together will reinforce your family’s healthy habits by: Empowering your kids: Teaching your kids how to cook is something that will help them to make their own healthy choices as they grow up.  Cooking will allow your kids to develop their food preferences and understanding of nutrition to apply into their own healthy lifestyles. Improving Communication. Shared meals create an additional avenue of communication for families. It can be a place to discuss the day’s events, enjoy each other’s company, and provide a time for family discussions. Asking open-ended questions such as “How was your day?” rath...

Guilt FREE Desert

Okay, so I'll admit that I have a bit of a sweet tooth. What I like about the 21 Day Fix program is that I can still live like a normal person and have a little desert with out having to stress. So the other night I came up with this yummy recipe: ~1-2 nectarines (depends on the size of the fruit and if your feeding family too) = 1 PURPLE container ~2-3 Shakes of Cinnamon ~Handful of almonds or pecans = 1 BLUE container ~1 YELLOW container full of Organic Oat and Honey Cereal (I actually didn't need to use the entire container) 1.Slice apricots and place on foil. 2. Sprinkle with Cinnamon and wrap up the foil gently. 3. Place in 350° oven for 15-20 min. 4. Roast nuts in a pan for a few min on low-med low heat. 5. Place baked apricots on a plate and top with a little cereal and nuts. You can drizzle a little juice let from the foil over the whole thing to kick up some sweetness, but it s not necessary.
