Since this is a Blog about PCOS, I am just going to come right out and be totally open about something most people would shutter to speak of out loud. My menstrual cycle! There!! I said it out loud. Now, you can uncover your eyes and keep reading. LOL!
I have struggled with crazy menstrual cycles my entire life. I was a late bloomer and since the age of 14yrs almost 15yrs, I have not been able to have more the 3-5 cycles a year at most. Most ladies would be grateful not to have a period. And most women have been quite frank and told me outright how fortunate I am to NOT have mine. The fact of the matter is they just don't really understand why having a regular menstrual cycle is so important to me or the body. While I may seem crazy, I would prefer to be regular like most ladies because to me it's a sign of good health.
Although periods are a pain to go through, they do provide several things for a woman. They help cleanse the body of the old and prepare for the new. A healthy cycle helps with hormone balance, as well as a sign of fertility. Without a healthy cycle your body becomes clogged and if the hormones don't emit properly you can suffer from having no cycles to having extremely heavy painful cycles. Plus a whole mess of other things that we won't get into today.
So for the longest time I have been trying to figure out my body and working towards getting my PCOS under control, so that I can have regular cycles. Not having them regularly has been a pain in the butt, because I would suffer with the emotional highs and lows, cramping, bloating..but not really knowing if menstruation was coming. Which is kind of like playing an emotional Crap Shoot game! Especially when you think you might be pregnant, to only find out you are not. Been there, done that too many times, DON'T want the T'shirt. :)
Anyhow, after several years of making healthy changes, getting my weight back under control, stress levels down, and being consistent, my body is finally doing what it was designed to do! Last year I had 10 normal cycles!! I probably would have had 11, but right a Christmas time we had something very stressful happen and I skipped Decembers cycle which stressed me out even more. It's no fun stressing over not stressing. LOL!
January rolled around and I was really concerned my PCOS issues were spiraling out of control, when The Almighty reminded me how far I had come and how many cycles I had last year. 10 awesome cycles! Almost no pain and a regular flow. Which is an amazing improvement coming from 3-5 cycles a year previously, which were painful and occasionally heavy. Also I am happy to report that my body is back on track again, because I finally got my much anticipated cycle last week! I was so excited I ran right out and told my husband. Who looked at me as only a man can when his wife say's she has her period. He tried to be happy, but deep down I know he was like, "Well, there goes another week without sex". Bahahhahaaa!
So in conclusion, each healthy change you make is going to impact your body positively. It took me 4 years of cleaning up old bad habits and being consistent to get where I am now. If I can do it, so can you. If you need help or just need a starting off point, message me. I am always happy to pass on the information that helped me, which could help you too.
